Abdominal wall tightening and abdominal wall surgery

Overweight, quick loss of weight, overstretching of the abdominal wall after pregnancies, operational wounds with abdominal hernia, but also a general weekness of the conjunctive tissue are the major causes for an abdominal wall tightening.

Because in most cases all layers of the abdominal wall including the skin fat tissue and the abdominal muscles are affected, abdominal wall surgery not only consists of the removal of excessive skin and fat pads but also of a complete reconstruction of the abdominal wall.

Procedure of an abdominal wall surgery operation:
The skin section is carried out above the pubic hair limit in a natural skin fold, from one iliac crest to the other across the underbelly. From here the whole abdominal skin with its fat layer is being peeled off from its underlay up to the costal arch, possibly the straight abdominal muscle is stitched together at the middle line, the skin is drawn down and tightened. For this purpose the belly button has to be released and transferred. The wound will then be closed layer-wise (stitched and/or closed with clips).

Abdominal wall surgery is a large-surface operation where complications are relatively rare. Bleedings during and after the operation may cause haematomas. Damaged lymphatic vessels can lead to increased lymphatic activity. This is why you will get two lymphatic drainages, on the right and on the left side, so the wound fluid can be sucked off regularly.

Moreover, either a tight pessure dressing within the first 48 hours after the operation is necessary or immediately after a tight pressure is created by means of elastic modelling bandage like corsage trousers or elastic corsages.

Aftertreatment is of special importance and it is in your hands. About 10 to 20 massages if possible every day or every second will improve the success immensely. You will get an impression of this in our clinic. The first massage is cost-free for you to show you how it is carried out properly.

The sutures will be removed about ten days after the operation. A convalescence of four to six weeks and the wearing of a corsage support the healing process and help to guarantee the success of the operation The stay at the clinic will last about three to five days, the operation will be carried out under general anaesthesia.
